San Bruno Fire Point Of Origin Established, Gas Reportedly Being Shut Off

7:50 PM The point of origin is now being specified as Sequoia Avenue And Sneath Lane. KTVU is also reporting that the gas from the broken main is no longer being released, and the flames are now being fueled “only” by burning homes. This is actually an improvement!

The Intel Hub reports that the FBI Joint Terrorism task force reported once on the situation and has not reported since.
There is also video of early newscasts reporting that the fire was caused from an airplane crash but that now has been refuted.
- Eye Witnesses claim their was a plane.
- A State of Emergency has been declared.
- SFist is reporting that a few neighbors told CBS 5 that they smelled gas in the area over the past week. PG&E came out because residents were complaining about the smell. But, according to the neighbors, they did nothing.
- During the explosion a water line was ruptured which effected firefighters ability to fight the blaze.
- Abc7 News is reporting that dozens of home have been affected by the explosion and apparently the fire is still being fueled by, “something” really “black” smoke in the area. The smoke is disrupting air traffic in the area.
- Authorities are currently dropping fire retardant in the area.
- 8:17pm: Preliminary numbers indicate that 35-45 homes have either been damaged or destroyed! 24 inch natural gas main explodes.
- 8:21pm: A Voluntary evacuation order has been issued for 3 quarters of a mile(near the explosion)
- 8:24pm: Families had to run out of their homes in their pajamas!
- 8:26pm: Women thought explosion was Judgment Day
- 8:28pm: Reporter for Abc7News reports that most of a whole neighborhood is gone, it is, “Armageddon” over there
- 8:39pm: Fire officials will be giving updates in the next half hour, stay tuned. 65 fire fighters and 25 pieces of equipment from Mendocino County.
- 8:48pm: One fire official said that many people were in their homes when the explosion happened. It was dinnertime.
- 9:04pm: Witness says it looks like the area was Fire Bombed! 20 homes leveled in the immediate blast. Does this mean that 20 homes were destroyed with people in them?
- 9:09pm: Fire department live feed is reporting that they have found at least one D.O.A
- 9:25pm: Radio Reference – Large 16-24in natural gas line explosion in San Bruno. 6 alarm. 25-30 houses on fire. At least 1 reported fatel, at least 15 taken to hospitals
- 9:45pm: FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force was reported once and hasn’t been reported again. Doctors and Nurses at the local burn victims hospital had a refresher course in treating burns earlier today. 1 person reported dead. Abc7News reporter: fire was “ferocious and swift”

MSNBC is now reporting that there are 2 reported deaths with one confirmed so far and dozens more have been injured by the explosion and the resulting San Bruno fires.
According to the report over 52 homes have destroyed with a total of 120 damaged by the fires.
KGO-TV stated that the 15-foot-deep crater is about 30 feet long and 20 feet wide was left near Claremont and Glenview drives and Earl Avenue from the explosion.
ABC news 7 reporters stated on their live feed of the fire that the explosion happened right near a local park but officials said it was unlikely that any children where in the park at the time because it was so late in the evening.
The reporter questioned that statement by remarking that she has taken her own children to the park many times at 6:00 PM and it was still daylight at the time of the explosion.
PG&E (Pacific Gas and Electric Co) officials have confirmed that the ruptured high pressure gas line is their but told reporters that the are still uncertain of the cause of the explosion.
Reporters have been speculating all night as to what may have caused the explosion and have ruled out many possible causes including speculation that construction was going on in the area.
There are still no official media sources that have raised the possibility of terrorism yet to my knowledge so a terrorist attack is still a possibility.
A California Emergency Management Agency spokesmen said that the fire has torched over 10 acres of property and officials have contained to about 50% of the fire as the flames continue to blaze into the nigh.

CNN is a little behind on catching up on the story and are just now reporting 1 dead although local stations are already reporting 3 casualties.
Local officials are warning however that they expect the death toll to rise dramatically.
CNN is also reporting only 28 injuries but local stations put the number at 70 or higher.
Phone lines in the area are still down and residents try to contact people in the area are receiving only busy signals making it hard to locate missing residents in the area.
Kelly Huston of California Emergency Management told CNN it is highly likely that the death toll will rise as the initial explosion is said to have leveled up to 12 homes in the immediate vicinity immediately.
“It looks like a bomb went off, ” California Lt. Gov. Abel Maldonado said Friday morning. “I saw debris everywhere . It was a huge explosion. I am shocked. This is a horrible tragedy that hit San Bruno.”
CNN is also reporting the lack of water in hydrants the area was due to a water main that was damaged by the explosion.
It is reported that the flames from the fire were so intense that the heat melted tail lights on cars blocks away.
Concrete and other debris are also reported to be scattered on cars and in street blocks away from the blast.
“I was standing next to a police officer who’d been in Baghdad and he said he had never seen anything quite so bad as this,” John Hampton, a freelance photographer who witnessed the fire, told CNN affiliate KGO. “It looks as if this area was firebombed.”
CNN also reports that over 100 people have been evacuated to local shelters and over 5,000 people are still without power.

CNN is reporting that the LA Times has confirmed that the death toll has risen to 8 and is expected to rise substantially.
I could only find an article published at 4:21 AM PDT on the LA times which puts the death at 6 confirmed deaths.
The article stated that fires are still burning throughout the neighborhood and PG&E as on the scene with heavy equipment digging through the concrete to get to the damaged high pressure natural gas pipe line.
CNN is also reporting that the media has been cleared from the scene because Government officials need the area occupied by the media to stage fire fighting operations.
The LA Times reports that it was not a single water main that was destroyed by a grid of water lines in the whole area.
The San Bruno Fire Captain Charlie Barringer who reported confirmed that 6 people had died in the California fires told the LA Times “I thought a 747 had landed on us, It shook our station right to its foundation. We were overwhelmed. We had multiple neighborhoods on fire.”

MSNBC reports that different officials are putting the pipeline explosion death toll between 4 and 8 deaths confirmed so far depending on which Government official you speak to.
Witnesses are reporting the initial explosion sent a fireball shooting over 1,000 feet into the sky and “shook the fire station to its foundations”.
