6 more Fukushima nuclear power plant workers receive radiation doses higher than the 250 millisievert government limit.

I previously reported that 2 Fukushima workers had exceeded the 250 millisievert government safety limit.

Workers Exceed Their Radiation Limits As Fukushima Reactor Still To Hot To Enter

Fukushima nuclear workers found to have exceeded their radiation limits as work remains suspended at reactor #3 due to dangerous levels of radiation following the release of a massive cloud of radioactive steam.

New reports out of Japan add 6 more workers to the list making the “official” total number of workers who have received dangerous doses of radiation at 8.

Kyodo news reports: 6 more nuke plant workers exposed to radiation above limit: TEPCO.

Japan says eight nuclear workers over-exposed to radiation

TOKYO (Reuters) – At least eight workers trying to bring Japan’s crippled nuclear power plant under control have been exposed to more radiation than allowed under new safety standards, government officials said Monday.

Three of six reactors at northeastern Fukushima melted down after the March 11 quake and tsunami knocked out power to the plant. Tens of thousands of people have been evacuated from the area around the plant.

The operator of the Fukushima Daiichi plant, Tokyo Electric Power, also known as Tepco, had previously said two workers had been exposed to more radiation than allowed.

Concerns about worker safety have been growing as the struggle to contain the crisis drags on and even Tepco acknowledges that it will be tough to hit a target of stabilising the reactors by January.

Many experts on radiation believe that the risk of cancer and other disease rises with the amount of exposure.

“The development is extremely regrettable,” said Hide Nishiyama, a spokesman for Japan’s nuclear regulatory agency.

Nishiyama said the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency had told Tepco to investigate the cause of the exposure and to take steps to make sure that it was not repeated.

The Associated Press adds the limit exceeded is the 250 millisievert total dose.

6 more workers may exceed Japan’s radiation limit

TOKYO – Japan says six more workers might have exceeded the radiation exposure limit at a crippled nuclear plant.

[…]

The government soon after the disaster raised the radiation limit for men to 250 millisieverts from the standard 100 millisieverts so workers could tackle the emergency.

I also love how Japanese news says TEPCO is reporting the 6 additional workers exposed to radiation levels above the limit and the Associated Press quoted “Japan says”. I guess to the American media TEPCO = Japan!?
