The movie version of the George Orwell novel 1984 – Uses symbolism to expose how corrupt government use propaganda and mind control techniques to control the masses by keeping them in matrix style version of reality.
If you haven’t read the book or watched the movie, do it.
It will open your mind to the propaganda and mind control techniques that government’s use to manipulate the masses.
While the following summary says the novel is “set in world beyond our imagining” the truth is that we a much closer to living in the world depicted in the novel than we actually realize and the BP Gulf Oil Spill is waking many people up to that reality.
1984 is possibly the definitive dystopian novel, set in a world beyond our imagining. A world where totalitarianism really is total, all power split into three roughly equal groups–Eastasia, Eurasia, and Oceania. 1984 is set in Oceania, which includes the United Kingdom, where the story is set, known as Airstrip One.
Winston Smith is a middle-aged, unhealthy character, based loosely on Orwell’s own frail body, an underling of the ruling oligarchy, The Party. The Party has taken early 20th century totalitarianism to new depths, with each person subjected to 24 hour surveillance, where people’s very thoughts are controlled to ensure purity of the oligarchical system in place. Figurehead of the system is the omnipresent and omnipotent Big Brother.
But Winston believes there is another way.
1984 joins Winston as he sets about another day, where his job is to change history by changing old newspaper records to match with the new truth as decided by the Party.
“He who controls the past, controls the future” is a Party slogan to live by and it gives Winston his job, but Winston cannot see it like that. Barely old enough to recall a time when things were different, he sets out to expose the Party for the cynically fraudulent organization that it is. He is joined by Julia, a beautiful young woman much in contrast with Winston physically, but equally sickened by the excesses of her rulers.
You will meet many recognizable characters, themes, and words which have become part of our everyday life as you read 1984. Where did Big Brother first appear? Certainly not on Australian TV! Written in Orwell’s inimitable journalistic style, 1984 is a tribute to a man who saw the true dangers of historian Lord Acton’s (1834-1902) statement: “Power corrupts; absolute power corrupts absolutely.“
About the book Orwell wrote:
My recent novel [Nineteen Eighty-Four] is NOT intended as an attack on Socialism or on the British Labour Party (of which I am a supporter), but as a show-up of the perversions . . . which have already been partly realized in Communism and Fascism. . . . The scene of the book is laid in Britain in order to emphasize that the English-speaking races are not innately better than anyone else, and that totalitarianism, if not fought against, could triumph anywhere.

First read the book, then watch the film. I understand that the richness of the novel cannot and is not sufficiently well captured in the film, which is nevertheless a good movie. It may also be difficult to understand if you haven’t read the book first.
“… the BP Gulf Oil Spill is waking many people up to that reality”.
It's like a bible for present-day Obamanible bald-faced Club FED lying to our faces; I'm proud to own this book, in which Orwell presciently predicted in the year of my birth (1949), our current double-thinking predicament! The movie puts it in play.
Thanks for posting. Check out Logans Run, Star Wars, Fahrenheit 451, Easy Rider, Endgame, etc. and so many other great films that just slip peoples minds and I think, for a reason:
#1. They’re putting shit in the water to dumb us down.
#2 Television (CIA invented TV for brainwashing and mind control purposes, look it up fuzzballs.)
#3 Propaganda and brainwashing has been going on for decades so it’s very difficult to break someone’s beliefs/identity. Hence, 1984 movie.
#4 You get the picture.

@Alexander, have you seen Endgame yet? (by Alex Jones). 1984 is a great movie but it does have a sort of opiate movie quality to it and leaves a lot of philosophical interpretation to the individual sort of like Star Wars and such.
In other words, you provided entertainment by posting 1984 (with good intentions) but I think you missed a great opportunity to reach people with a more relevant film (that’s based on our current reality) like Endgame.
Maybe you’re worried about losing traffic and advertising revenue to Alex Jones or something, I don’t know.
