Oil And Gas Leaks From Cracks In Seabed Confirmed – Videos Show Gulf Oil Spill Leaking From Seafloor

There have been several reports of oil and gas leaking on the cracks in the Gulf of Mexico seafloor which may cause problems with BP capping the gushing oil well.
Although BP denies that there is oil or gas leaking from the cracks in the sea floor many people watching the BP Oil leak cam have witnessed explosions and leaks from the seafloor.
Update: NOAA has confirmed over a dozen leaks coming from the seafloor near the Deepwater Horizon but says they all appear to be natural.
I discussed this issue in detail when I was recently interviewed by Fintan Dunne.
Well those reports from Senator Nelson and Matt Simmons among other experts are now confirmed and if you didn’t already now it could be really bad news.
As Keith Olbermann put it on his MSNBC show “Countdown” when reporting about the possibility of the sea floor leaking “What’s Worse Than Doomsay? … This is It”.
In any case, BP denying these reports is absolute proof that BP is not being truthful about what is really going on the sea floor.
The Government really needs to step in at this point and allow independent outsiders such as James Cameron assess the situation on the Gulf of Mexico sea floor.
Update: Apparently there is some objections to the Cameron comment above. Perhaps after viewing this document showing the recommendation of a Cameron convention about the leak, attended by WHOI and others, it will be more apparent that BP’s current containment plans actually follow those recommendations and why I have made the suggestion.
This also indicates BP is putting on a pony show until the relief wells can be completed.
However several experts including Matt Simmons and Dr. Stephen A. Rinehart have came forward and said if the well casing is blown because we do indeed have leaks coming from cracks in the sea bed it could cause problems with the relief wells.
They warn that leaks in the seafloor from broken well casing could allow cement from the relief well to escape from the damaged well casing which would prevent the cement from curing.
According to Business Week and several other sources experts have also warned that the relief wells could take until December to complete and that doesn’t even factor blown well casing into the time line.
The US government cannot allow BP to waste time leaving this well leaking until December only to find out that the relief wells won’t work because BP has been lying about the integrity of the well casing the entire time.
Watch! Video of oil leak coming from cracks in a rock on the seafloor
ALSO NOTE THE GLOBS AT 2:45
Watch the leak at about 0:26 in slow motion
The you tube video above seems to skip several frames giving the appearance that the leak could be silt being kicked up by thruster kick.
Watching this video in slow motion you can clearly see that this is not thruster kick and that the source is cracks on the sea floor.
Slow motion loop of first few seconds
Here is a video looping the first few seconds of the video showing the leak shooting out of the cracks.
Again this shows this is not silt being kicked up by the ROV thruster.
Blobs of Oil at 2:47 in the video

Currently surrounding the situation in the Gulf are several stories circulating online, about oil venting from cracks in the ocean floor in the area where the broken BOP stack is located, with pressures appearing to fluctuate wildly. There are reasons why this is happening.
Horizon’s borehole is actually located in between allochthonous salt bodies and autochthonous salt layers in sub-floor Macondo region. The near-surface sediment is young and unconsolidated muck. Shallow water-flow is a big issue here (that is overpressured unconsolidated sands, sometimes with biogenic gas
( that’s produced by sub-floor microbial life ) or just overpressured brine — a very unstable near-surface section. The ” Gumbo Zone ” the borehole passes through, is the region in which sub-floor microbes proliferate. Strike-slip movements, which are common in this area, exert pressures on sub-floor hydrocarbon pathways . In conjunction with microbial biogenic hydrocarbon gas productions, this is responsible for fluctuating flow pressures. Were there no heat sources in the sub-floor, the gases would stay where they are due to pressures. However, since heat and pressure are the influencing factors that dictate gas sublimation, this is understandably intertwined with microbial processes. Methane hydrates form and stay at the deep ocean floor levels due to the fact that any heat produced by pyroclastic oil venting, is immediately lost to the surrounding seawater acting as a heat-sink. Deep ocean pressures keep these gases low, where in turn, other microbial strains digest them and produce other products, like a unique form of sulfur, in the form of ” mats “. The problem of fluctuations in pressure could have been caused by the force-injection of lower temperature drilling mud, introduced by the ” Top Kill ” method. Why ?

Hey, thanks for covering this, great work.
The link you provided discussion on The Oil Drum was especially informative. We are in deep deep trouble here. I really wonder about the motivations of the people involved (BP / Monsanto with the 2-B in Corexit being the same stuff in Roundup)
Anyway, three things I want to mention in return.
1) There are reports of 3.4ppm benzene and and 1.2ppm H2S onshore. These are potentially dangerous levels, especially for benzene.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eGxGVGiD3yk
2) Dr. Riki Ott has said BP is engaging in a systematic cover-up of dead carcassas washing ashore, with BP contracted individuals sweeping beaches at night, with flashlights. She also says health effects from the air are effecting many individuals involved in the response. She says they must wear respirators because of the danger. This information confirms the measurements in #1 of 3.4ppm benzene and 1.2ppm H2S.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0wrQCY76fps
3) There is now crop blight in coastal areas of Alabama and Louisiana. Farmers are convinced this is “something in the air.” I see two likely possibilities, both related to the BP spill. The first is that we have chemically contaminated precipitation. The second is that we have chemically contaminated air. Either way, this is really serious.
Video to the coastal crop blight which appeared over the weekend.

Putting on a show !? Yup.
First off, In the course of reading MMS documents, I found one written for the MMS reviewing current containment capabilities of the Gulf region’s divisions responsible for responding to a deep-water blowout, describing exactly why there is only a 6 hour ” window ” to use dispersants on light sweet crude, the danger of deep-water blowouts, and the unknown results the blowout could have on the environment. That led me to study the API gravity of light sweet , and I discovered it actually will start to emulsify with the seawater ( bind like a salad dressing ) after just 10% of methane evaporation. Since natural thermal cracking underground creates methane in the range of 6-700 degrees f, the fact they are more than 6.5 miles into the earth , relatively close to underground lava flows, would point to the cause of gas production by way of high temperatures. Combined with a high particulate content 50/70 %, and high pressures quickly eroding sub-floor salt structure pathways, a collapse of the sea-floor seems to be immanent.
http://www.slross.com/publications/mms/349AA.pdf
Fourteen percent of Gulf oil spills of light sweet crude are highly emulsifiable and have a very narrow window of opportunity for treatment of chemical dispersants. These are called Hi-E oils. They are defined as oils that will start to emulsify either immediately, or after just 10% has evaporated.
*th test done was for a sub-surface blowout in deep water with high flow. The estimate for the blowout was a total of 9 million barrels, 100,000 BPOD x 90 days. This is because it represents the worst case scenario.
The results for scenario 8, strangely are not listed. Results for tests 6+7 were done in ” deep-water ” of only 150 meters. According to the document, the oil not treated with dispersants was chemically no longer able to be affected by the application. That’s very a narrow window.
The more rapidly the oil emulsifies , the greater the proportion that will become undispersable.
When surface and subsurface blowouts of identical size and oil type are compared, dispersion of the subsea blowout is much less effective operationally than the surface blowout, due to it’s larger width, smaller oil thickness and more rapid emulsification.
Overall, the results of the scenarios analyzed suggest that the largest spill that can be treated using existing response capabilities lies in the area of 3180m (c) or 800 m (c) per day for 4 days of continuous spill.
That’s not promising.
Then to top it off, light sweet crude, has an API gravity that put’s it right into the Hi-E oil category which means this.
Crude oil is primarily a mixture of hydrocarbons — that is, compounds made of hydrogen and carbon. The simplest hydrocarbon, with only one carbon atom, is methane (CH4) — the gas that is believed to have caused the explosion of the Deepwater rig. The hydrocarbons in crude oil range from simple ones with a few carbon atoms to bigger ones with as many as 40 carbon atoms or more.
That widely variable composition means not all oil is created equal. There’s heavy and light and sweet and sour. Heavy crude tends to have more impurities like salts and metals than light crude. Sweet crude tends to have less sulfur than sour crude. Generally speaking, when you’re looking to make gasoline, light sweet crude has traditionally been preferred because there is less refining needed.
I haven’t seen an exact chemical analysis of the oil flowing from the Deepwater rig, but the general assumption has been that it is a light sweet crude. I’ll use that assumption in the discussion below, of how methane is created..
Deeper burial by continuing sedimentation, increasing temperatures, and advancing geologic age result in the mature stage of petroleum formation, during which the full range of petroleum compounds is produced from kerogen and other precursors by thermal degradation and cracking (the process by which heavy hydrocarbon molecules are broken up into lighter molecules). Depending on the amount and type of organic matter, oil generation occurs during the mature stage at depths of about 760 to 4,880 metres (2,500 to 16,000 feet) at temperatures between 65° and 150° C. This special environment is called the “oil window.”
Geologists often refer to the temperature range in which oil forms as an “oil window”[17]—below the minimum temperature oil remains trapped in the form of kerogen, and above the maximum temperature the oil is converted to natural gas through the process of thermal cracking. Sometimes, oil which is formed at extreme depths may migrate and become trapped at much shallower depths than where it was formed.
Thermal cracking underground is known to start at the 6-700 degree range. Using the information below in my posts about sub-surface salt structuring in the Sigsbee, and, how close they are to underground lava flows by the depth of the Horizon borehole depth. ( Horizon was drilled to a depth of 35,050′. That’s 6.6382575 miles. The Sigsbee’s depth in the G.o.M. is disputed and estimates range between 3,750 and 4,384 metres {12,300 and 14,383 ft}. ), it is obvious that they are encountering uncontrollable methane production in the sub-strata, due to natural pyrolysis and the resulting production of gas.
The oil is already killing crops.
