BP Gulf Oil Spill ROV UTM Distance Calculator

There has been quite a desire for a tool that would help to map the location of the BP Gulf Oil Spill ROV locations in reference to their distance from the leaking well head.
I have thrown together one such tool here and hope others find it useful.
The reason for this tool is to help put in perspective the various things that are on the bottom of the sea floor as well as to help gather evidence to either prove or dispute the existence of leaks on the bottom of the gulf sea floor.
I observed one such possible sea floor leak over a mile away and over at the gpcaptain forum a reader reports another billowing cloud almost 3,000 feet away.
Update:
Here is a mapping of things on the sea floor from doomers.us.

That post also points out:
Note: N,E coordinates are displayed in either feet 10429572,1202495 truncated feet: 0429572, 202495 or meters: 3179507, 366990

There is so much being hidden from us … not only the amount of oil actually spewing…. this article tells more….
As I understand it, for every barrel of oil spewed out – lost – poured out in a disaster, a fine will be imposed. It would seem that this knowledge has been behind the reason BP initially downplayed the estimate of oil at 5000 barrels per day. Now that a tally can be kept of what is being piped aboard the other rig and boats that will store, for processing, this oil, a better estimate of the fines accruing can be made.
This will not of course include all the millions of barrels of oil BP has dispersed – via the use of toxic chemicals – into the waters of the gulf, and possibly worldwide!
I mean if you can’t see it, you can’t count it – so therefore it isn’t there coz YOU can’t prove it! READ MORE:

On the livecam wall one cam has a worker on the platform but then he disappears ala I dream of jeanie in other words it was not in real time/live.
Question: Why do cams on gusher pause/freeze? and worker cam edit (dream of jeanie pop out)
then suddenly are off line.
Why do I ask? I know why..failure to disclose etc
But would like any one to give their thoughts.
Also new laptop that I got to watch cam wall keep blocking saying app was aborted Why? Suggestion to fix?

Hey Alex,
thanks for linking my photo to your site,
I realized that I have the Eastings reversed in the first draft of this seafloor map, please post the new version:

The United States Government is Stupid. They should of caped that well and made them focus on cleaning up the water. Now the oil has reached the beaches in Florida what use to be BLUE WATER.
Instead of aerators the oil pip gasses the water and is killing the wildlife for miles around.
I disapprove of the government United States Government lack of handling the Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill that is still poisoning our shores. Yes be hurt from the comment, but get off your ass and do more. Now!!!!!
I still would get over 100 navy ships and arm them with filter pumps. And cap that well. Also deploy aerators into the beach areas. We may by now need 200 ship fleet.
The Future is here. The water will need filtering stations set up every few miles for months until the water starts to clean up.
As for the bays has oil on the top of the water also need filter stations. Science fiction has come to life in man polluting the planet.
Yet the United States Government has not spent any money on a filter station for the United States.
Yeah that just makes me mad to know my government did squat for the United States to fix this problem.

Thanks for this clear explanation of what the ROV coordinates mean. There is a lot of confusion and bad info on the web.
It does appear that there is an error in your calculator tho. If the ROV's Easting number is higher than the BOPs Easting number, your calculator states it is to the West of the BOP.
I'm just starting to comprehend this whole UTM system, but it appears to me that a higher Easting value would place the ROV to the east.
