BP’s next plan, the LMRP, will leave oil leaking in the Gulf of Mexico until August. We need to President Obama that BP’s use of the LMRP option to capture oil from the leak is unacceptable.

After a series of explosion in the BOP during the topkill operation blew a huge hole in the BOP BP has finally stepped forward today and officially announced that the top kill operation has failed

To those watching the BP Live Video Feed Webcam of Gulf Oil Spill this is no surprise.

However, the surprise here is the details that BP announced about its next step is called the LMRP, which is nothing more than a glorified siphon.

LMRP Explanation and animation

The LMRP is a totally unacceptable option that mat take over a week to implement.

What’s worse is that instead attempting a solution to cap the oil leak this solution is designed to capture most of the oil for BP to resell and will continue to allow oil to leak into the Gulf of Mexico until at least August.

The LMRP involves cutting the broken BOP from the drill pipe sticking out of the seafloor.

After the BOP has been removed BP’s next step will be to install a new cap device on top of the drill pipe.

The new cap will be designed to allow BP to collect most of the oil coming from the pipe it and send it a ship on the surface.

Instead of having a mechanically tight cap however BP has warned that this cap will not fit tightly around the drill pipe.

Why is BP going to install install a loose fitting device designed to capture most of the oil instead?

If they are going to be installing a new cap it should be one that will fit tight and be designed to be able to close and permanently stop the oil leak.

The problem here is that BP is in charge.

The US government needs to step in at this point.

There have been 7,380 ideas submitted to cap the gulf oil leak to the PBS, YouTube and Google crowdsourcing site alone.

BP has said over 10,000 ideas have been submitted directly to them and it is actively considering 700 of those, meaning that those ideas have merit and could possibly work.

But BP announces it will attempt a new method to capture the oil instead of capping the well.

Personally, I have submitted at least a half a dozen suggestions to cap the leaking oil that involved cutting the BOP from drill pipe.

I am certain there are hundreds more that have been submitted.

BP should not be allowed to call the shots here.

It is clear that they are more concerned will collecting oil so they can sell instead of trying to seal the leaking well.

Clearly there is a conflict of interest due to BP concern with profits.

President Obama needs to step in and put someone in charge that is going to try to plug the damn the damn hole.

BP should not be allowed to to leave this well leaking until a relief well is completed in August just so it can make profits.
