The oil drum is reporting that unconfirmed sources are saying that BP may start injecting cement into the BOP within the next two hours to finally cap the gulf oil spill.
We have two unconfirmed reports that cementing will begin at #topkill site w/in two hours. http://bit.ly/bOCbgt #oilspill #oilpocalypse #BP 26 minutes ago via TweetDeck
Activity on the from the BP Live Video Feed Webcam of Gulf Oil Spill seems to confirm the reports.
The first indication is that we are seeing mostly drilling mud shooting from the top of the Blow Out Preventer today as opposed to what was mainly oil.
It this is mostly drilling mud then it is an indication that the back pressure has created a stasis that is keeping the oil in the pipe which is the part of the top kill plan.

Here’s a detailed description and diagram of the ‘top kill’ procedure: http://bit.ly/caYPG1 #oilspill #BP about 18 hours ago via web
The other indication that BP may in fact start the cement job is the the recent change in activity below. BP is now performing what appears to be an inspection of the hosts leading from the cement distribution panel to the blowout preventer.
Here’s a gallery of what has been going on down there.
- Blow Out Preventer appears to be spewing mostly drilling mud now
Here’s a video of the inspection.
