Has the Gulf oil spill hit NJ? Oil is washing up in the Barnegat Bay (Update 2)

I know it may sound crazy… But when I went outside this morning the lagoon in my back yard was filled with OIL!!!!! (PHOTOS BELOW)
Click here to view a slideshow of the oil slick in the Barneget Bay in NJ.
I was a little alarmed at first. I have a 150 foot wide lot so I walked the whole length and could see nothing but oil floating everywhere.
I thought maybe it was a boat leaking gas, so I went across the street to the lagoon behind my relatives house which is a half mile to a mile from my house by boat.
It was also filled with oil and a lot more than was in my backyard.
I decided to grab my camera and drive out the Mantoloking Bridge which connects Brick Town NJ to Mantoloking, NJ by crossing over the Barnegat Bay.
To my surprise I also found oil floating around the base of the bridge on both sides.
Looking out over the water I saw what appears to be large slicks of oil spread out over the entire Barnegat Bay here in New Jersey as well.
I will be contacting my local EPA to have them come out an investigate.
Is anyone else experiencing the same thing in their area?
Is it possible that we could already be seeing the Gulf oil spill washing up in NJ?
It is highly unlikely that oil has spread all the way to NJ from the Gulf oil spill already but there is a lot of oil floating around the bay.
Update: I reported this to the local DEP case #100522111105 operator 25. They said this can not be from the Gulf oil spill but they are coming out to investigate.
Update 2: The New Jersey State Police are now driving around my lagoon and the Barnegat Bay trying to find the “source” of the oil slick floating around in the water.
These photos of the oil in New Jersey’s Barnegat Bay where taken in three separate locations located miles apart. Photos where taken between 8:15 am and 9:00 pm.

Its all good, i believe the israeli swim team were practising in those waters.
Maybe that oil is the lesser of your worries:-
Have you ever wondered what happens to all that vacant space inside the earth, once minerals, oils and gas are taken out? What happens to the void left behind?
We have all seen movies and news reports of mining disasters deep under ground, when cave-ins occur. Solid minerals have been extracted, deep voids have been left behind, and sometimes horrendous mining accidents occur when walls and ceilings collapse, killing miners, and leaving families and friend totally devastated.
That is not a pretty picture to remember is it? But what happens to the inside of the Earth when oil and natural gas is extracted? Are we in any danger now that BP have found it impossible to stop this gusher?

It's the oil from the Jersey Shore cast.. lmao
Did they ever track the source of the oil in your backyard? Even if it’s not from the Gulf, curious to know, and yuck!, anyhow.
I have to debate some of the photos in this album. First, when is there not oil and/or gas/fuel floating on the barnegat bay? I have been boating/swimming in bay for over 20 years. Depending on tides and winds, its common to see discoloration on the water surface, especially in lagoons, coves, and protected corners.
The shots of the sand an the black streaks, may or may not be oil, but I have been seeing those black streaks on jersey shore sand forever. And so have my parents before me (whom have 60+ yrs at the shore). I don’t think its oil, just minerals/ or breakdown of stones and shell fish. (lots of muscles in the bay).
The far shots of the bay showing what appears to be lighter color streaks, that just calm water. Another thing I have seen all my life. It is very common to see that on calm days or early in the morning. Its not oil. What it looks like to me is great water skiing conditions.
I don’t live at the shore, but my parents do. When I get down there in the next few weeks, I’ll be sure to have an eye out for abnormal conditions.
If you see oil washing up on the ocean beaches, than we have problems. It will most likely be there, if its in the bay. ANd probably hit there first.
The bay is not the cleanest body of water around. Lots and Lots of boat traffic, keep that in mind.
Hi Steve,
I do not often see oil in my own lagoon and the key thing here is that this is a massive amount of oil covering at minimum 5 miles of of the bay. Since this incident I continue to see oil show during slack tide. When the wind is blowing or there are ripples the oil seems to get agitate and you cant see it. During slack tide when the surface is calm you still see the oil.
I agree with your discoloration due to tides and water but the pictures clearly show oil.
You can also dispute the account all that you want but the incident was reported to the DEP and the state police came out and confirmed the oil, gas, diesel or whatever the substance is. You can contact the DEP yourself for confirmation the case number is listed in the post.
I still have not heard from the DEP of what the source was and most likely it is from a local incident. However the massive amounts of oil make it alarming.
Most likely a local incident but anything is possible and still a great concern.
@Alexander, I ran into your blog a few days ago and have been following ever since, great work. I also do web design, SEO etc. and have always held back expressing my discontent with the government, corporations and mainstream media for fear it would jeopardize my career. Thank you for demonstrating that it is possible to make a difference in the world.
Here are a few other independent news sites I frequent, please feel free to make these into links and thanks again Alexander.

In regard to oil sheen in NJ. The whale that has washed up in NY seems to point to the fact that oil has reached the Atlantic Seaboard. Considering that the only tracking of oil distribution is the oil that is seen on the surface. But thanks to the horrific use of dispertants the bulk of the oil most certainly could have traveled in the loop current unseen by the naked eye and the partial oil surfaced in NJ and just one of countless marine mammals that traveled with the oil washed upon the beach in NY.
thats not oil you have to be a stupid head to think tht is oil. i know what oil looks like and thats not oil!
Then what is it? It is definitely a petroleum based product.
Chemical Dispersant?
I thought only bodies washed ashore in NJ. Welcome to our world. Robt/Texas
