Less than 24 hours after the Feds gave BP the order to stop using a super neurotoxin that is used as a pesticide, BP gives the Fed the middle finger and say we will not stop.
Its not if the ongoing BP coverup and mass campaign of lies and misinformation wasn’t enough already.
BP has decided to flex its muscles and remind the American politicians whose really in charge.
BP just gave the Federal Government a big fat middle finger by saying “Corexit is an EPA pre-approved, effective, low-toxicity dispersant that is readily available, and we continue to use it.” to clean up the Gulf oil spill which is leaking around 100,000 barrels of oil per day into the Gulf of Mexico.
BP also recently told Unified Commanders that BP will not be using hair that has been collected through a grassroots movement to help clean the oil spill.
BP’s response that it doesn’t care what the Government tells it to do follows orders from the EPA to a new dispersant within 24 hours.
The EPA orderes for BP to use a “less toxic and more effective dispersant” came after it became widely known at least 12 dispersants that are less toxic and more effective than Corexit where avialable.
BP’s big lie: The size of the oil spill does matter
Critics argue that BP has close ties with the manufacturer of Corexit and claim that BP’s use of dispersants are only part of a PR stunt to keep the oil spill off the cameras.

Just a side note, does anyone else notice the trend of independent blogs breaking all of the big news about this story instead of the main stream media?
The Controversy over the use of Corexit to disperse the Gulf oil spill
The controversy over Corexit began after environmentalist pointed out the the main ingredient in the dispersant, 2-Butoxyethanol, is a neurotoxin used in pesticides.
While the NIOSH Recommended Exposure Limit (REL) for 2-butoxyethanol is 5 ppm per work shift Corexit contains much more 2-Butoxyethanol and is lethal to aquatic life.
In fact the one version of the dispersant use in the Gulf of Mexico oil spill actually contains up to 60% of the super neurotoxin 2-butoxyethanol which far exceeds the 5 parts per million hazard level set by NIOSH.
To be precise Corexit 9500 can be composed of anywhere from 10 to 30 percent the toxic pesticide, while 2-Butoxyethanol makes up anywhere from 30 to 60 percent of Corexit 9527.
We still await the government response to BP telling the Government to go stick it where the sun doesn’t shine.

BP has told the Environmental Protection Agency that it cannot find a safe, effective and available dispersant to use instead of Corexit, and will continue to use that chemical application to help break up the growing spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
BP was responding to an EPA directive Thursday that gave BP 24 hours to identify a less toxic alternative to Corexit – and 72 hours to start using it — or provide the Coast Guard and EPA with a “detailed description of the alternative dispersants investigated, and the reason they believe those products did not meet the required standards.”
BP spokesman Scott Dean said Friday that BP had replied with a letter “that outlines our findings that none of the alternative products on the EPA’s National Contingency Plan Product Schedule list meets all three criteria specified in yesterday’s directive for availability, toxicity and effectiveness.”
Dean noted that “Corexit is an EPA pre-approved, effective, low-toxicity dispersant that is readily available, and we continue to use it.”
The decision not to use hair collected to clean up the oil spill or use other ideas like hay to soak up the Gulf of Mexico oil spill signifies that BP does not have the interest of Gulf of Mexico residents or the environment in mind.
Instead BP continues its information black out and is sticking to its out of sight out of mind PR tactics to minimize its liability claims.

It’s absolutely insane what they are dealing with . I have many doubts of the structural integrity of the BOP and the functionality of any moving parts contained within. I have looked at the Cameron Type TL and it seems the the type of seal,a bonnet seal is basically pressure-fit ,with the option of ST locks or wedgelocks .I think about the facts that…..
A. There is not only high viscosity crude flowing at at least 10k psi, probably 15 or more,but it’s estimated to have a sediment/particulate content of around 70%
.
B.the oil flow is estimated to be around 2-400 degrees f, which makes me wonder, if they try to top kill, will hydrates form from the water in the heavy mud.I have my doubts about top kill also , because supposedly, some of the valves on the BOP are open halfway( or so stated from gamma ray imaging results )I have my doubts, but I do not know whether the valves close in or out)If they are open and structurally damaged, they cannot be closed and it’s possible that heavy mud will just flow out open valves when flow is overcome from the top with greater pressure. I also have my doubt’s , because they will be shooting a dense fluid at high pressure into a piece of machinery that is definitely damaged heavily. I do not know the rates of expansion concerning high pressure dense fluids overcoming lighter, lower viscosity,lower psi flow containing a high amount of dissolved gasses.
C.There is also the fact that water can become super-critical at temperatures greater than little over 700 degrees f. Which is a moot point except when we examine the fact that an increase in salinity lowers boiling point of water .What does this have to do with anything ? Well, the area that they are working in is a massive salt ridge and I have my doubts about the ability to track rapidly fluctuating salinity levels at the start of the hurricane season .
D. There are the effects of rapid expansion of water flashing to steam. Water expands to almost 1700 times its original volume within a few microseconds.In addition, close to the critical point, small changes in pressure or temperature result in large changes in density,Which is easily to fairly easy to predict…..if you know the salinity saturation of the water. Of course, when it’s constantly fluctuating, it’s hard to plan ahead.
E.When water goes super-critical it has the tendency to effuse through solids like a gas.
In chemistry, effusion is the process in which individual molecules flow through a hole without collisions between molecules. This occurs if the diameter of the hole is considerably smaller than the mean free path of the molecules.[1] According to Graham’s law, the rate at which gases effuse (i.e., how many molecules pass through the hole per second) is dependent on their molecular weight; gases with a lower molecular weight effuse more quickly than gases with a higher molecular weight. For two gases at the same temperature (and having the same specific heat), and thus having the same kinetic energy, the root mean square molecular speed, vrms, of each gas can be found using the equation
3⁄2kBT = 1⁄2mv2rms
That’s all good and well, but if the manufacturing records for the alloy that the broken riser pipe and the BOP were made from have any falsifications in them, their calculations are moot.
E. The fact that so many people are yelling “nuke it” or “blow it up” with no understanding of underwater udexes show our ignorance of science as a whole .( I won’t go into details , I’m sure you know already) They don’t know the propensity of waves to travel to the path of least resistance is very important,because at a great depth sound/shockwaves travel very far. This is why whale calls and sonar travel so far underwater. IMHO They would could cause a small tsunami in the Gulf if they did this. No country has ever done any testing of nuclear detonations at 2kpsi or higher. They wouldn’t even be able to get a nuke down there with out remote piloting one down in a submersible and just blowing the whole thing up.
F.They are in the process of drilling relief wells with estimates of completion by August.They have to drill first and then remove drill-head made for soft rock, pull everything out, replace drill head with metal boring bit that is mountable on a lateral drill( who makes that !?), then spend who knows how long milling into the riser pipe…. If they can even get close to the riser pipe in the first place.Because salinity greatly effects the ability of seismic imaging to accurately represent sub-seafloor density. This basically means unless the software they are using to extrapolate the data they need is effective, they can only speculate. Normally it’s great and works well, but remember there is a great deal of noise down there that will interfere with seismic imaging as well as having to consider the unpredictability of rapidly fluctuating salt saturation. Which means that unless they can be pinpoint accurate with the drilling of the relief well and directly come right up to the riser….they have failed.
G. I believe that they know this already and are preparing to use a conventional explosives charge planted in the shaft. If they can get close enough underground it’s possible that they would be able to collapse the riser with a detonation. This would immediately halt ALL flow.
H. IMHO, the first attempt could have been successful by a slight modification.All they had to do was cut off the pipe close to the BOP with an underwater band saw in the vertical position move it out of the way ,and drop a giant box over the top. They were too concerned with trying to figure out how to continue to get the oil. They could have welded a double-wall box of around 15′x15′x15′ with the wall interior ( maybe 3′ ) packed with rock , lowered it down over the BOP , and ceased this immediately.

Ultimately, we have to take a serious look at where the blame lies here. Is it us, for turning a blind eye to what’s in front of us and letting things get to the point where this could happen ?
Or does the blame lie in those of us that invest in Big Oil just to make a quick buck , without knowing knowing what they actually do ?
If people that invest in companies like NALCO and TIORCO/STEPAN knew that they do things like make liquid polymers from the crude they pump and then pump it back into the ground for use in Enhanced Oil Recovery, they might think twice about investing. Maybe even they would start to develop the concept of investing with some fiscal ethics.
Or does the Blame lie with those of us that invest in Big Oil , all the while knowing their practices are definitely not steering towards anything resembling environmental sanity ,but actually away from it as they seek riskier environments in the search for profit?
The people that actually run the show ,keep us all arguing about things like money, politics,sports teams,religion, etc,etc, whilst they make shady deals behind closed doors to manipulate us by allowing regulations in business to become lax so accidents will happen, then stepping in to do damage control.
Because disaster precipitates the flow of finances.

There are many many many people that will actually make money in the long run off of this as the effects cascade through our world. Everything from manufacturing , to the medical field to chemistry research and beyond . All sectors will be effected.
This is all a great shame, because I love Hydrocarbons .Without them I would be blind , cold and naked. I just think that in the long run there is a better way.

A breaking enviro-friendly technology has just been discovered that has been proven to clean and recycle the spilled crude in the Gulf.
Something needs to be done SOON! It has been over a month now and BP has yet to find a solution to this problem! Someone needs to tell BP to google “how to clean and recycle oil spill” and they will have the solution to this problem.
According to the United States Fish and Wildlife Services, there are 108 species listed as threatened or endangered in the state of Florida alone, a state who has just declared a state of emergency for 26 counties due to the Oil Spill, and an additional 154 listed in the surrounding States. Our economy right now can not handle the strain this will put on the entire Gulf region, so we need to act fast as concerned citizens ourselves. STOP THE USE OF ALL DISPERSANT CHEMICALS
The action of all dispersants–even better ones than BP is using–is to particalize and sink the hydrocarbons. That gets it out of sight but poisons the oceans.
There are several ABSORBENTS that could be used that, in conjunction with skimmers, gather surface mess. And the absorbed globs that do reach shore could be gathered more easily.
The best thing that the U.S.Government can do is to order BP to keep its attention and efforts on stopping the gusher, and to leave the surface clean-up to more rational and less political parties.
