Huge amounts of oil in Gulf Loop Current heading toward Gulf Stream. Satellite photo shows Oil spill has traveled 222 miles into Loop current. Huge underwater plumes of oil are speeding toward the Florida Keys and will make way up East Coast of US. Satellite photo also reveals possible second separate rig is now contributing to massive amounts of oil leaking into Gulf.

Satellite Image Analysis of the Gulf Oil Spill Performed May 17, 2010 shows that oil slick in Gulf of Mexico has now extended over 222 miles from the source of the spill into the Gulf Loop Current.

This news comes just on the heals of BP’s first break of good luck after it just reported that they have been successful in installing a siphon into the main leak.

That siphon may be able to suck up 5-15% of the oil leaking from the ill-fated oil rig.

But to make matters worse, te size of the surface slick has grown over 100% since the last SkyTruth satellite Image analysis.

SkyTruth reports that there is now over 10,000 square miles floating on the surface of the Gulf.

Recent reports have reveal that the oil on the surface is only a strong fraction of the total amount of oil floating around in the Gulf.

Reports indicate that majority of the oil is stuck in huge plumes of oil floating below the Gulf of Mexico sea surface.

MODIS/Terra satellite image taken May 17, 2010, shows oil slick being entrained in the Loop Current, with a broad conveyor-belt-like extension of the slick sweeping in a gentle arc to the southeast and reaching 222 miles (357 km) from the location of the leaking well. Slick and sheen covers 10,170 square miles (26,341 km2), almost 100% larger than was visible in the 5/14 radar image.

The Entrance of the Oil Slick into the Gulf Loop Current Signifies what officials fear is a catastrophic event.

Experts warning that if the Oil spill entered the loop current the spill would make its way into the Florida Keys, enter the Gulf Stream and head up the East Coast.

The thermal image below shows that path the Gulf Stream follows that the Oil Slick is now destined to enter.

Skytruth has also reported that satellite analysis has revealed a second smaller leaking oil well separate from the Deepwater Horizon well that may now be adding to the catastrophe in the Gulf.

This has gone way to far out of control.

There is absolutely no reason that the Federal Government is not demanding that BP reveal the full extent of this leak.

There is an armada if workers, ships and planes at work in the gulf.

Yet a blogger from New Jersey over 1,300 miles away is breaking this story, and even then only thanks to John Amos from SkyTruth and Twitter.

Where is the mainstream media on this?

Where is the accountability?
