That small little feature in WordPress where you can customize your permalinks structure is a Killer from the SEO perspective. Having a ‘clean URL is extremely important from the SEO perspective. Please do not ask me why, it is pure experience.

The part where BlogEngine has a problem is that it’s native URL’s – so not the one for the posts, but the one that display tags are also wrong. They look like this:

http://www.seokonzultant.com/blog/?tag=/blogengine

that is because it is essentially the search result.

They should look like the categories links, like:

http://www.seokonzultant.com/blog/category/Google.aspx

and even that ‘.aspx’ is not needed there at all.

Before those issues are addressed, the same content presented on BlogEngine and on WordPress – will result that a WordPress page gets up to several times more visitors than the BlogEngine ones. Now do you want your blog to bi red or not? :)

BTW Alex, I forgot to write - Excellent article!!!

Hi Alex,
First, thanks for the link. I do however, think my remark was taken out of context and the comparison here is apples to oranges rather than like items. What I asked in reply to you was "Are you really that worried about search engines indexing perma links to _comments_?" (with emphasis on "comments")

I wholeheartedly agree that permalinks for posts are critical and I think dasBlog does a decent job with that. As for comments I don't think permalinks are all that critical for SEO.

An interesting side note, I find it valuable that dasBlog has a page title "CommentView" that gives the user a clue that the content could be some sort of comment to a post which could imply a conversation which is typically more meaningful than a standalone post.

Anyway, you've made some good points but I did want to clarify my position.
